A Azul Linhas Aereas Brasileiras is an airline that flies higher and higher, taking Brazilians to more than 150 destinations around the world. Its purpose is to shorten the distance between people and their greatest dreams.
Dreaming big is our business! It was with this harmony that the destinies of Azul and Levva met. In this partnership, Azul brought us the problem and levva delivered the solution. It was as simple as that.
The working hours rules in the Brazilian Civil Aviation Regulation (RBAC No. 117), is one of those giant documents with fine print. For flight crew members, calculating the hours of their workday, respecting climate and different time zones was difficult and even complex. It was often confusing because it depended on interpretation. In addition, the regulations were consulted in printed form, usually in flight.
If everything is complex, who is going to understand how things work? We believe that for every problem there is a simple solution. With a team that uses technology and design as a tool to transform lives, businesses and people, Levva's mission was to simplify this process.
> Simplify the complex system of journey time and flight hour rules established by ANAC (National Civil Aviation Agency), Brazil's aviation regulatory agency
> To bring a better understanding and practicality to the working time regulations for aviation professionals
> Digitize paper-based processes and centralize information
> Create a fully integrated system, making life easier for aviation professionals
> Apply in practice the concept of design sessionbringing Azul Linhas Aéreas into the creation process

The Blue Calculator was the simple solution found by levva for the complex problems faced by Azul's crew. The application, as the name suggests, is a calculator of hours worked by crew members. For a long time, they consulted printed tables and calculated their working hours by hand. These calculations were not easy, as they had many variables, such as:
> The difference in the amount of hours required for each type of flight, whether national or international;
> The different time zones, both on departure and on arrival of each flight.
With this, airline pilots, flight attendants, and other aviation professionals have been able to have important information in the palm of their hand with great agility and simplicity:
Flight hoursHow many hours they could fly
RestHow many hours they needed to rest before returning to work
Time zoneHow to do this math in countries with different time zones
CalculationsHow to calculate flight, working and rest hours
Controls Andhow to control the flight hours
With the Blue Calculator, the crew member has this information with a few clicks and in a few seconds. It's as simple as that.
Levva brought its development team along with the crew, contributing to a better understanding and empathy. At this stage, interviews were conducted with users e stakeholders. The engagement and commitment of Azul's IT team, as well as the digital maturity level, allowed for a high quality delivery. Collaborative creation was constant throughout the project.
The levva team got headlong into the world of aviation, which required a lot of research and immersion. Concept and usability tests were conducted to identify the user's main pains. During the development, some pilots and flight attendants used the application during flights and gave feedback to the levva team, which made the necessary changes. All to improve the user experience experience and give more agility to deliveries.
The study performed was very thorough and yielded such features as:
> Adaptation of the interface to the hand of use: the pilot or steward is, in many moments, with a busy hand, so the application has the option of inverting the screen, adapting itself to the crew member's available hand;
>Night and day use modes: as the cockpit is dark, the pilot can change the use mode according to the environment lighting, not impairing his vision.
Through constant collaboration between Levva and Azul, it was possible to analyze the entire flow and greatly improve the usability of the digital solution. The app had several features that met the needs of flight crew members, providing a good user experience, both in the usability of the product and in their workdays.
> Approval and satisfaction of the application users (crew members);
> Greater convenience for the flight crew in controlling their workday;
> Better understanding by aviation professionals of the rules of the day;
> Improved crew productivity and communication;
> Reduction of costs with materials such as paper.
